Raynim Research is the investigations desk of Raynim, the company behind the free leak check at raynim.com. The posts are written by Artur, Raynim’s CEO and co-founder, and published under the desk’s name so that questions and corrections reach the company rather than one inbox.

What the investigations are built on

Today the investigations rest on one source, and each post names the sources it uses. Google publishes every copyright removal request it receives for Web Search: 46.9 million of them since March 2011, naming 17.9 billion URLs. We loaded the full export — about 80 GB — and read it end to end. Where a post concerns creators, the record is filtered to the filings of creator-protection agencies, the companies whose clients are creators of paid content. The lists that come out of that reading are the same ones the scanner checks search results against.

Every figure in a post traces to a query over that export or to a cited source, and every post carries a Data & method section that names the export date, the window, the filters and the denominators. Where the data can mislead, the post says so before the reader finds out.

What we do not do

We do not link to leak sites, publish screenshots of leaked material, or name individual creators. Domains are named only where the record supports it: leak sites that at least five independent agencies filed against on behalf of hundreds of creators, and legitimate sites that were compromised, which are described as victims. Any owner can ask for a domain to be removed from a post; see the corrections policy.
